Man seizes hostages in Los Angeles shop - TV

One person injured in attack

NEW YORK, July 22. /TASS/. An unidentified individual took customers of a Trader Joe’s shop hostages in Los Angeles, California, on Saturday, CNN reported.

It started with policemen chasing the suspect who was driving a car. The car crashed, the driver left it, opened fire on police officers and entered the shop.

One woman was taken to hospital from the scene. The policemen accompanied the injured woman to an ambulance car. The woman was found in the car that the perpetrator had been driving when escaping the police.

Several children and adults managed to leave a shop, CNN reported. The shop customers hastily roped down through the shop windows. Police have not confirmed the hostage taking yet. "We can confirm that there is an active barricaded suspect within a TraderJoes in Silverlake. An active tac-alert has been declared to ensure all resources necessary will be available. Please continue to stay clear of the area," the Los Angeles police tweeted.

US President Donald Trump is closely monitoring the situation regarding the shop attack, he wrote on Twitter on Saturday. "Watching Los Angeles possible hostage situation very closely. Active barricaded suspect. L.A.P.D. working with Federal Law Enforcement," the American leader wrote.

Trader Joe’s is cordoned off by policemen, with police helicopters patrolling the air space. Authorities are trying to engage in negotiations with the person who barricaded himself in the shop in order to learn his intentions and demands.
