Over 3.4 mln people take part in May 1 celebrations across Russia - Interior Ministry

According to Spokesperson Irina Volk, over 47,000 security officials were ensuring law and order during the May 1 festivities

MOSCOW, May 1. /TASS/. Over 3.4 mln people have taken part in May 1 celebrations across Russia, Interior Ministry Spokesperson Irina Volk said.

"On May 1, more than 3,300 public events were held in over 2,100 cities, towns and settlements across Russia, involving more than 3.4 mln people. No major incidents were recorded during the celebrations," she said.

According to Volk, over 47,000 security officials were ensuring law and order during the May 1 festivities.

Meanwhile, a Moscow police source said that over 1.5 mln people had participated in May 1 celebrations in the country’s capital.

"As of 18:00 Moscow time (15:00 GMT), over 1.5 mln people have participated in public events and outdoor festivals in Moscow," the police press service said.

"Police officers, together with members of the National Guard and voluntary patrols ensured order and the safety of those who engaged in public events. There have been no incidents," the press service added.
