Moscow Film Festival reports over 50,000 fans viewed movies screened at event

About 300 movies were screened at the event

MOSCOW, April 26./TASS/. More than 50,000 viewers watched motion pictures from the Moscow International Film Festival’s (MIFF) program, MIFF President Nikita Mikhalkov told a briefing on Thursday, the final day for this event’s 40th festival.

About 300 movies were screened at the event, including 88 flicks on the Russian Program. Part of them were regional films, said renowned Russian director Nikita Mikhalkov. "Maybe we will see a growing demand for arranging a festival of regional movies," the filmmaker noted.

Usually, the MIFF is held in summer, but this year it takes place in April because of the 2018 FIFA World Cup that Russia is going to host in June-July. Mikhalkov noted that April has proven to be an ideal time for the film festival, adding that an application has already been submitted to schedule the MIFF for future Aprils.

The 2018 Moscow International Film Festival had run from April 19 to 26. The ceremony’s jury consisted of Actress Nastassja Kinski (Germany), Director Anna Melikyan (Russia), Actor John Savage (US), and Director Liang Qiao (China). Last but not least, Italian Producer Paolo Del Brocco served as chairman of the jury.

The main program included 16 pictures. One of them, "Naples in Veils", opened the film festival. That said, the Canadian crime drama "Identity" directed by Samuel Thivierge will wrap up the festival.
