Putin urges public to stand firm against attempts at falsifying WWII history

"It is our duty to safeguard the truth", the Russian president said

MOSCOW, April 25. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a message of greetings to the participants in and guests of the international forum The Great Victory Attained through Unity: Heroism of Guerillas and Underground Resistance in the Great Patriotic War, being held in Bryansk. The message was published on the Kremlin’s website on Wednesday.

"It is our duty to safeguard the truth about the heroes and firmly repel all attempts at falsifying the facts of history. I am certain that the sacrosanct memories of May 1945, of the heroic accomplishments of our fathers and grandfathers who defended the freedom and independence of the Motherland, who saved the world from Nazism, will always serve as a basis for firm partnership and neighborliness of the peoples and countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States," the message runs.

Putin said the traditional meetings held on the eve of Victory Day are a major consolidating event in the lives of CIS member-states and their peoples.

"They bring together eminent public figures, veterans, representatives of scientific and expert circles and creative and youth organizations. Their noble mission is to maintain a continued timeline and teach the younger generation to be considerate in their attitude to the ever-lasting spiritual and moral values, the heroic pages of the common history of our peoples, including the guerilla and underground resistance movement, who bravely fought against the enemy during the Great Patriotic War.
