Nine dead as van plows into pedestrians in Toronto

Sixteen more had received injuries

OTTAWA, April 23. /TASS/. A total of nine people died and another sixteen were injured when a van plowed into pedestrians in Toronto, the police chief of the megalopolis told reporters.

He said he could confirm that nine people had died and sixteen more had received injuries.

Canada’s minister of public safety said it is too early to say whether the crash of a van into pedestrians was a case of international terrorism. Canada has not yet changed its terrorism alert level and so far, there is no information that would suggest a need to do so.

According to Russian embassy in Ottawa, Russian citizens were not hurt in the incident.

Earlier a van struck pedestrians on Monday local time in the Yonge Street and Finch Avenue area of North York in Toronto. Police confirmed that the van has been located and the driver is in custody.
