Russian budget spending on fundamental research should go up 50% in the coming years, the president stated

MOSCOW, April 10. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said funding of scientific research remains a high priority and called for a considerable increase in spending on research.

"We will seek to ensure budget spending on fundamental research should go up 50% in the coming years," Putin said at a joint meeting of the presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Science Council of the national research center Kurchatov Institute.

"They keeps changing all the time. We always bear in mind that when it comes to the main, breakthrough guidelines for the country’s development we will have a chance to add something depending on how the situation in the world economy and the Russian economy develops," he said.
