Engineers to be among first Russians on the Moon

Russia is planning its own Moon-landing program, which is expected to be adopted in 2019 and will run through to 2040

MOSCOW, April 12. /TASS/. Engineers will be included in the first missions to the Moon conducted by Russia, Roscosmos Executive Director of Manned programs Sergey Krikalyov told TASS.

"Reality proves that engineering qualifications are more cross-functional. It’s easier to include an engineer who knows the spaceship systems and teach him biology," Krikalyov said, answering a question on which specialists will be among the first to travel to the Moon.

According to him, more focused specializations will emerge when more people inhabit Moon bases.

Russia is planning its own Moon-landing program, which is expected to be adopted in 2019 and will run through to 2040. Russian cosmonauts are to land on the Moon after 2030, while a fully-equipped base available for visits will be built after 2035.
