The Professor Multanovskiy research vessel to begin Trans Arctic expedition in mid-2019

The team is being formed, the beginning is scheduled for July 10-15

VLADIVOSTOK, March 11. /TASS/. The Trans Arctic 2019 expedition’s part, involving the Professor Multanovskiy research vessel, is scheduled to begin on July 10-15, 2019, the Far East’s Hydrometeorology Studies Institute’s Acting Director Alexander Dunayev told TASS on Monday.

The expedition, which will continue to autumn, will have four stages. Scientists will study the Russian Arctic seas. Earlier, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev inked an order to allocate almost 870 million rubles ($13 million) for the studies.

"We have agreed on the dates the expedition will begin," the official said. "The vessel will leave Vladivostok on July 10-15."

"Presently, the team is being formed, and we discuss scientific tasks," he added.

During the cruise from Vladivostok via the Bering Strait to the Kola Peninsula, teams of the research vessels Mikhal Somov and Professor Multanovskiy will monitor the Arctic seas’ environment, while the Akademik Treshnikov vessel will be frozen into ice. Besides, the Professor Molchanov vessel will traditionally host the annual Floating University.
