MOSCOW, August 30 (Itar-Tass) — Overnight to Wednesday the tragedy broke out at a border checkpoint in Belidzhi in Dagestan. A contract border guard opened fire in the barracks, killing seven servicemen and wounding another six. Five killed servicemen are officers of the special centre of the police rapid response forces in the Altai Territory. According to a version, the sergeant could have been recruited by the gunmen and just fulfilled their order, shooting down other servicemen.
The witnesses noted that at some moment of time Ramzan Aliyev opened sporadic fire from the Kalashnikov submarine gun on the tent of the OMON riot policemen at about 17:00 Moscow time, the Moskovsky Komsomolets daily reported. Two people died instantaneously, two other people were brought to the hospital in Derbent later. After that Aliyev broke in the barracks, where the police officers were sleeping after the combat mission and began to shoot them at point blank. A police officer stopped Aliyev’s fire spree, shooting the whole magazine in him.
The sergeant was reported to be 30 years old, he has been on the contract military service. The detectives do not even investigate the theories about hazing or other unpleasant personal relations. According to one of the main versions, which the law enforcers voiced to the Rossiiskaya Gazeta daily, the sergeant could have been recruited by the gunmen and just fulfilled their order shooting the servicemen down. According to available reports, the security services had the information about the suspicious conduct of the contract serviceman. Aliyev was repeatedly noticed to read the extremism religious literature. But his chiefs did not make serious conclusions out of this and just transferred the suspicious serviceman from the combat unit in the logistical unit. However, Aliyev continued to go on guard duty with the gun.
