Russian Deputy Prime Minister Rogozin supported Putin over the interethnic issue

Rogozin aims to create a new rightwing patriotic movement as an alternative to the chaos of street rallies

Izvestia published an article written by the Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin under the title “Russia’s Response to Vladimir Putin”. In the article he supported the ideas, which the prime minister laid down in his election program article over the interethnic issue. The Russian high-ranking official is convinced that “Russian patriotic movement should integrate with the authorities.” He noted that he is creating a new national patriotic movement as “a rightwing alternative to the chaos of street rallies.”

He considers Putin’s article about the interethnic issue “an unprecedented event”, which in terms of the development of Russian statehood “will have long-term positive consequences.” “Warm feelings and a closer attention to ethnic minorities and small indigenous peoples became normal for the policy of our rulers long ago,” he wrote down. “This is certainly right. Another thing is wrong: why the authorities should take the needs of the Russian people and their chronic ill points with demonstrative indifference?” Rogozin said.

Rogozin noted that Putin, who dwelt on the issue, which was considered a taboo several months ago took “a courageous and unexpected step.” He noted that this took place “at a critical moment for Russia”, as the moment that may entail a catastrophe.

Rogozin believes that one more tense moment came for Russia, when the world, according to him, “goes insane quickly.” The deputy prime minister elaborated that he refers to a new division of the world and the struggle for resources, when “US officials do not feel any shame over their hegemonic plans,” and the West topples the rules unsuitable for them “in armed interventions.” A weakened Russia is running a risk to fell another victim of this policy, he warned.

However, the threat for Russia is coming not only from the outside, but also from the inside, Rogozin pointed out, putting it clearly from where in particular the threat is coming. “Today in our eyes political impostors, which ruled the country in the bandit nineties and demand again ‘to continue the party’, are seeking to control the street protests. They are seeking to provoke people for another ‘liberal demarche’,” he said.

The deputy prime minister is convinced that those who “are shaking the political boat” are clinging not to bureaucracy, which “should be given a good hiding a long time ago for the humiliation of people and the law, greed and impudence.” “They are clinging to Putin. You know why? Since Putin today is a symbol of policy independent from Washington and is the only leader left in Europe not to be crushed down by US hegemony,” Rogozin claims.

Putin’s defeat will make many people happy, Rogozin believes. “For instance, Mme. Albright, who is dreaming to manage the riches of Siberia. Mme. Clinton will be happy too. Certainly, our liberal “fifth column”, which is queuing to the US Embassy, will be glad. But for the Russian citizens Putin’s defeat will mean the loss of our country's independence” he remarked.

Putin “brought the Russian national issue from the underground,” the vice-premier writes. “From now on talking about Russian rights and problems will not be considered as something criminal and indecent. Putin’s article confirms the fact of cooperation established between the authorities and several patriotic organizations, primarily “Rodina – the Congress of Russian Communities”. Now in his actions over the interethnic issue Putin can hope for a broad political and organizational support of an authoritative and oldest national patriotic movement in Russia,” Rogozin said.

Rogozin noted that he is participating in the creation of a voluntary movement of the All-Russian People’s Front (DON) in support of the army, navy, defence and industrial sectors. “This is a national patriotic rightist alternative to the chaos of street protests, which can bring our country into another epoch of troubles, this is the national self-defence against any attempts for an external rule of Russia,” he said. The organization will hold a founding congress in Moscow on February 26.
