The Sochi Olympics keeps getting more expensive

This year Gazprom is planning to spend about 38 billion roubles for all Olympic projects in Sochi

MOSCOW, January 12 (Itar-Tass) — The Sochi Olympics gets more expensive every year. The Gazprom expenses for the Sochi Olympics may reach 180 billion roubles.

The Vedomosti have studied the Gazprom investment programs since 2009 (including the plans and forecasts for next three years), excluding the expenses for the projects in Sochi. The government made up the list of Olympic sites four years ago. Gazprom intended to spend 40.5 billion roubles for two major Olympic sites, namely the Dzhubga-Lazarevskoye-Sochi gas pipeline and an alpine ski centre on the Psekhako ridge. The Russian gas major intended to finalize both Olympic sites in 2012.

However, the expenses will grow in 2013, the Vedomosti cited the Gazprom materials. This year Gazprom is planning to spend about 38 billion roubles for all Olympic projects in Sochi (45 billion roubles in the previous year), about 23 billion roubles is forecast to spend in 2013.

The expenses will total more than 100 billion roubles. Another 80 billion roubles can be spent for the Adler thermal power station, a Gazprom highland tourist centre, including buildings for the reception of official delegations, donations to the Russian Olympic Committee for the training of the Russian Olympic team to the Sochi Olympics.
