Russia's Western Military District drills involve more than 1,000 troops

MOSCOW, August 25. /TASS/. More than 1,000 motorized infantry, artillery troops and military pilots, as well as some 200 units of combat and special equipment are involved in brigade tactical exercises in Russia’s Western Military District, the district spokesman Oleg Kochetkov reported on Tuesday.

"The maneuvers involve more than 1,000 troops, about 200 units of military and special equipment, more than 10 combat helicopters Mil Mi-8 and Mi-24," Kochetkov said.

He said that the tactical maneuvers with the formations and Army Aviation Brigade, stationed in the Leningrad and Pskov regions, are conducted in accordance with the combat training plan.

"The main goal of the maneuvers is improving officers’ command skills and unit cohesion, and collective training of the motorised infantry, tank, artillery and aviation units," the military district spokesman said.

According to him, the exercises will last until August 29.
