Russian senior lawmaker's US visa application still at the embassy — embassy spokesperson

Media reports said Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko couldn't travel to New York to attend a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union allegedly having been denied the US visa

MOSCOW, August 24 /TASS/. The US embassy in Moscow is still considering a visa application of Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, the embassy’s spokesperson William Stevens told TASS on Monday.

Her visa application is still at the embassy, the diplomat said commenting on media reports that Matviyenko could not travel to New York to attend a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union because she had allegedly been denied the US visa.

A session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, where Matviyenko is supposed to deliver a speech, will open in New York on August 30.
