KURILSK /Iturup Island/, August 22. /TASS/. Russia's Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed an order on the Russian borders, where the shelf is increased by 50,000 square metres.

"Anyway, we should not skip hydrocarbons," he told the Iturup youth forum. "I have signed an order, which fixes the border at the continental shelf of the Sea of Okhotsk."

The prime minister continued saying: "Exactly there are huge sources of raw materials, sources of energy. The document is important, as it was adopted after consultations with the UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS), it was agreed with our neighbours, with our Japanese counterparts."

"Thus, the area of our shelf becomes bigger by 50,000 square kilometres," he said.
