Russian Black Sea Fleet conducts missile drills in Mediterranean

MOSCOW, August 14. /TASS/. A convoy of six warships from the Russian Black Sea Fleet conducted missile and artillery drills in the neutral waters of the Mediterranean Sea, fleet’s spokesman Captain 1st Rank Vyacheslav Trukhachev said on Friday.

"Besides the Moskva missile cruiser, a total of five warships as well as three supply vessels took part in the drills," Trukhachev said adding that the Pytlivy escort ship was participating in the exercise as well.

"During the exercise, the warships from the Black Sea Fleet drilled measures on the protection of convoys, various altitude air attacks defense, combat attacks on vessels of a simulated enemy as well as assistance to a damage vessel," Trukhachev said.

The group of the Black Sea Fleet warships has come to the Mediterranean after a series of drills in the Atlantic Ocean, including missile and naval gun firing practice.

Trukhachev said previously that the warships had conducted a number of exercises in the ocean to drill antisubmarine, anti-ship and antiaircraft defense, underway refuelling, as well as practised the escort and defense of vessels from pirates and terrorists.
