Russia seeks Indonesia partnership as it eyes fight on terror

MOSCOW, August 5. /TASS/. Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs has told Indonesian colleagues it wants dialogue and cooperation, eyeing the fight against terrorism as a key concern.

Chiefs of the two ministries have been discussing deeper links at a gathering of senior police officers on the sidelines in Jakarta of an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) conference.

"We are interested in information about terrorist activity," Russian minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev told Indonesian chief of police Bodrodin Haiti, praising that nation's success in fighting extremism.

The Interior Ministry was ready to sign a bilateral cooperation agreement, Kolokoltsev said, also addressing the isue of security for Russian tourists in Indonesia.

Russia's delegation has been attending as a full dialogue partner at the association's 35th congress, deepening Russia-ASEAN cooperation, said an interior ministry statement.
