KHABAROVSK, August 5. /TASS/. According to preliminary data, 12 people have been killed and about 21 injured in a collision of 2 intercity buses in the Khabarovsk territory, Russia’s Far East, on the Komsomolsk-on-Amur - Khabarovsk highway in the area of Lake Gassi, the regional police department told TASS on Wednesday.

The regional police press service said that "12 people died on the spot, three are in extremely grave condition and a total of more than 21 passengers have been injured."

The collision of two passengers buses of the routes 301 and 304 was reported to the Khabarovsk territory’s police duty officer at 15:00pm, local time (08:00am, Moscow time). Rescue and firefighting teams, traffic policemen, ambulance brigades and the Russian Emergencies Ministry Khabarovsk territory department’s response group were dispatched to the scene. The Emergencies Ministry alerted two helicopters for the evacuation of the injured.

The causes and circumstances of the traffic accident are being ascertained.
