Buryatia air defense drills involve some 500 troops

The Air Force and Air Defense troops have been put on combat duty to protect the designated area, their task is to repel massive missile air strikes of a simulated enemy

MOSCOW, July 27. /TASS/. More than 500 troops are taking part in a live-fire exercise of aviation and air defense units of the Central Military District that began at the Telemba range in the Buryatia republic in Siberia on Monday, the district commander’s aide Colonel Yaroslav Roshchupkin said.

"The Air Force and Air Defense troops have been put on combat duty to protect the designated area. Their task is to repel massive missile air strikes of a simulated enemy," Roshchupkin said.

"Commander of the second Air Force Command and the Air Defense Troops Lieutenant-General Viktor Sevostyanov is in command of the exercise, involving more than 500 troops, some 100 pieces of equipment, including 15 aircraft," he said.

On Sunday, a group of the MiG-31BM fighter interceptors was moved to Buryatia from the Krasnoyarsk and Perm territories. Also, the S-300PS anti-aircraft missile system crews of the Novosibirsk air defense division were redeployed to Buryatia.
