MOSCOW, July 16 /TASS/. Russia appreciates Thailand’s role in Asia-Pacific regional integration processes, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday as he opened talks with his Thai counterpart Tanasak Patimaprakorn.

"We have long-standing traditions of partnership and friendly relations. In two years from now, we are going to mark the 120th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations. We need to be well-prepared for this event," Lavrov said.

"There is reciprocal interest in building up cooperation in various spheres. New important agreements were reached when Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev visited Bangkok in April this year," the Russian foreign minister went on to say.

Lavrov described Thursday’s talks as a good opportunity to exchange views on various themes, including a political dialogue and international issues.

"Russia appreciates Thailand’s noticeable role in the process of deepening integration in the Asia-Pacific region," Lavrov stressed.

The Thai foreign minister, in turn, noted a good level of bilateral relations between Russia and Thailand. "I am inviting you to visit Thailand once again if you have a chance. It’s a great pleasure to meet you. Our countries have long-standing relations, which are progressing. Thailand is smaller than Russia but we have strong determination to promote cooperation," Tanasak Patimaprakorn said.
