SIMFEROPOL, June 25. /TASS/. Crimean winemakers plan to once again ask the country’s leadership to introduce a ban on imports of wines from Europe to Russia, the chairman of the Crimean Bureau of Grapes and Wine said on Thursday.
"We plan on discussing at the coming session of the Bureau of Grapes and Wine the issue of another request for the country’s leadership on introducing a ban on imports of the European wine. The session will be held next week," Yanina Pavlenko said.
There are all the grounds for introducing the embargo for the European wines now, she said, adding: "A competitive environment always implies the variety of choice."
A year ago, the European Union imposed sectoral sanctions against Crimea’s leading wineries - Massandra, Novy Svet, Magarach, and Azov Distillery.
"We consider this as an unfair competition. We have been simply withdrawn from the European markets and this is rather selective," she said.
The Inkerman winery, a private company with participation of the foreign capital, is ready to support the idea of banning European wines to Russia.
"Judging from the price-quality ratio, the European wines are no rivals for us. But if European partners start ‘trolling’ us, put it in crude terms, then I as a patriot of the country and the whole our team will unanimously back the policy of the Russian government. We are for the support of a domestic manufacturer," the director of company, Alexei Lipko, said.
