Russian Airborne Forces drill starts in Eastern Siberia

The paratroopers will interact with motorised infantry units of the Eastern Military District

MOSCOW, June 17. /TASS/. Maneuvers of units of Russia’s Airborne Forces have started in the Trans-Baikal territory in Eastern Siberia. The main tactical events of the exercise will take place at several military training grounds of the Eastern Military District until 19 June.

The Russian Defense Ministry’s press service said on Wednesday that "more than 2,000 troops and 250 pieces of military equipment of the Ulan-Ude and Ivanovo air assault forces were alerted as part of scheduled bilateral command-staff exercises with airborne insert in an unfamiliar territory."

The ministry said that for the first time command-staff maneuvers of this level are conducted simultaneously with two major formations of the Airborne Forces. During the exercise the paratroopers will drill use of new command methods with the use of automated systems. The paratroopers will interact with motorised infantry units of the Eastern Military District.
