MOSCOW, June 8. /TASS/. The BRICS, or an association of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, sees its mission in creating a fair multi-polar world and its activities are aimed against no one, Valentina Matviyenko, speaker of the upper house of the Russian parliament, the Federation Council, said on Monday.

"We say it definitely that the BRICS activities are aimed against no one, that the BRICS is not seeking to derive advantages at the expense of other countries. We are working in the interests of our countries and nations, in the interests of international peace and security, in the interests of a fair multi-polar world," she said at the BRICS parliamentary forum.

"The BRICS’ growing influence and authority might not be liked by all," she said. "We encounter attempt made by certain forces which want a unipolar world and global dominance to hamper our cooperation."

According to Matviyenko, Russia sees as a key task of its presidency in the BRICS gradual transformation of the organization from a dialogue forum and an instrument of coordination of positions on a limited range of issues into "a full-format mechanism of strategic and tactic cooperation on key issues of global politics and economy." She called on the BRICS partners to pool efforts "to elaborate mechanisms of coordination of lawmaking activities to ensure the implementation of decisions and agreements reached by the BRICS leaders" and to offer parliamentary backing to BRICS agreements.
