Kremlin says G7 and G8 formats are narrow, Russia focuses on other regional groups

‘We and our partners are actively preparing for the summits of these two organizations BRICS and SCO to be held in Ufa,’’ the Kremlin spokesman said

MOSCOW, June 5 /TASS/. Narrow international formats like G7 are becoming ineffective, Kremlin spokesperson Dmirty Peskov told journalists on Friday.

"We have stressed it many times that in present-day world realities narrow formats like G7 or G8 are gradually losing their effectiveness as floors for discussing global problems and vital challenges," Peskov said. "A much more effective discussion takes place in other formats, on which we are focusing our work and attention," Peskov added giving the G20 and regional formats like BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (/SCO) as examples.

‘We and our partners are actively preparing for the summits of these two organizations (BRICS and SCO) to be held in Ufa,’’ the Kremlin spokesman went on to say.

"Russia actively participates in other multilateral formats," Peskov concluded.
