NALCHIK, June 5. /TASS/. The regime of a counterterrorism operation has been introduced in part of the Baksansky District of Kabardino-Balkaria, the Russian North Caucasus republic’s operational headquarters said.
"In order to prevent terrorist acts, ensure security for citizens, organizations and institutions, seek and detain hiding militants, the head of Russia’s Federal Security Service Department for Kabardino-Balkaria, Col. Oleg Usov decided to introduce the regime of a counterterrorism operation from 05:00 Moscow Time at a part of the republic’s Baksansky District, northwest of the village of Atazhukino," the HQ said.
A number of special measures and temporary restrictions will be in place in the area until further notice.
Russia’s law enforcement agencies continue fighting militants in the North Caucasus over 14 years since the battle phase of the second war against Islamist separatists in Chechnya came to an end in 2000. Attacks on security officials and civilians occur from time to time in Dagestan, Ingushetia and Kabardino-Balkaria.
