VLADIMIR, May 29. /TASS/. Yuri Solomonov has been appointed Russia’s Designer-in-Chief for solid-propelled missiles, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said on Friday.
"I can’t make public all the names because some of our physicists are under a security classification, but I can disclose some individuals and Yuri S. Solomonov is one of them," he said. "He is a hero of Russia and he will be in charge of an area related to making solid-propelled strategic missiles."
President Vladimir Putin signed a decree of the Designers-in-Chief for armaments in January. Under the document, there will be no more than twenty chief designers and the status and responsibility will be much higher than they have been so far.
The designers-in-chief will supervise the R&D related to the most crucial armaments systems and will correspondingly get broader powers in terms of resource procurements for the projects under their supervision.
Dmitry Rogozin said earlier this month four designers-in-chief in aerospace industry would be presented to the President before the yearend.
