MURMANSK, May 27. /TASS/. Ten ships of the Russia’s Northern Fleet, including the Admiral Ushakov destroyer, are involved in the Barents Sea maneuvers that were launched on Wednesday, fleet’s spokesman Navy Captain 1st Rank Vadim Serga said.
"A total of 10 warships and support vessels, as well as planes and helicopters of the naval aviation are involved in the all-arms force manoeuvres of the Northern Fleet," he said.
According to him, the maneuvers have four main episodes - defense of the strike force deployment area, searching for and attacking a submarine by a naval group in conjunction with anti-submarine aircraft, the organization of air defense and rescue of people in distress at sea.

At first, Serga said, the Yadrin and Solovetsky Yunga base type minesweepers will clear the way to the sea for a squadron, comprising the Admiral Ushakov destroyer, the Rassvet small missile ship and the Georgy Titov rescue ship. The Yunga and Brest small antisubmarine ships with the participation of the Kaluga diesel-electric submarine will conduct an operation to search for and destroy an "enemy" submarine.
The warships will also organize air defense, conducting missile and gun practice at a target set by the Su-33 deck-based fighter. The Sekstan seagoing tug, the BM-596 diving support vessel, as well as the Ka-27 search-and-rescue helicopter will be involved in the last episode.
Serga said that the exercise is conducted within the framework of training of cadets of the General Staff Academy.
