First stage of Russian snap combat readiness check almost complete — ministry

The combat readiness check involves about 12,000 troops, up to 250 aircraft and helicopters and about 700 pieces of armaments and military hardware

MOSCOW, May 26. /TASS/. The first stage of the surprise combat readiness check of aviation and air defense troops in the Central Military District will be completed on Tuesday, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

According to the scenario of the snap check, over 100 warplanes of Russia’s Air Force were to be relocated to other aerodromes with the backup of groupings from the Western and Southern Military Districts.

The surprise combat readiness check particularly focused on deployment of systems of aircraft control in field conditions, organization of support for pilots in new base areas and relocation of air defense troops by railway.

The surprise check as part of preparations for the Center-2015 strategic exercises started on May 25.
