Russia’s Finance Ministry sues tycoon Potanin

The amount claimed by the lawsuit is $68.2 mln, which includes the initial debt worth $8 mln plus penal sanctions

MOSCOW, May 22. /TASS/. Russia’s Finance Ministry has filed a lawsuit against businessman Vladimir Potanin and the Interros International Investments Limited company to the Moscow commercial court, according to the court’s statement.

Interros International Investments Limited is a subsidiary of Interros holding controlled by Potanin.

The court registered the lawsuit on May 21.

The amount claimed by the lawsuit is $68.2 mln, which includes the initial debt worth $8 mln plus penal sanctions.

An official with the Finance Ministry told TASS that the ministry had filed the lawsuit on behalf of Vnesheconombank (VEB).

The lawsuit is related to the damages VEB had suffered due to bad liquidation of the Roskhlebproduct company, the official said.

The court has been considering the relevant debt since 2009, the official said.

Potanin has been involved in the case as one of defendants and as a final owner of one of the shareholders of Rosklebproduct.

Roskhlebproduct is an agricultural asset of Interros that operated in 2001-2009.
