Russian interior ministry: Polonsky deported to Russia

Polonsky, who has been on an international wanted list and for the past several years has been living on his island in Cambodia, has been taken to Moscow

MOSCOW, May 17. /TASS/. Russia’s interior ministry confirmed on Sunday fugitive tycoon Sergei Polonsky has been deported to Russia.

"Polonsky has been taken to Russia by Russian police officers and will be brought to criminal liability in line with Russian laws," Russian interior ministry spokeswoman Elena Alexeyeva said.

Polonsky, who has been on an international wanted list and for the past several years has been living on his island in Cambodia, has been taken to Moscow.

"A Vietnam Airlines plane with the Russian businessman deported from Vietnam among other passengers landed at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport at about 19:00 Moscow time," a source familiar with the situation told TASS on Sunday.

Polonsky has been taken to a detention centre immediately after landing at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport.

A source in the Russian interior ministry told TASS Polonsky would be taken to a detention centre since he had been arrested in absentia. Another source in law enforcement agencies told TASS investigative actions with Polonsky would most likely begin on Monday. Thus, he will be charged with fraud.
