Russian humanitarian convoy sets off for Donbass

Among the humanitarian cargoes are presents to World War Two veterans on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of victory

MOSCOW, April 23. /TASS/. The 25th Russian humanitarian convoy with gifts for the veterans of the Great Patriotic War /1941-1945/ has set off for Donbass in eastern UKraine, Oleg Voronov, the deputy head of the National Crisis Management Center, which operates under the emergencies ministry, told TASS on Thursday.

"The convoy set off from the Russian emergencies ministry’s Don rescue centre in the Rostov region (southern Russia) at 04:00 a.m. Moscow Time and is heading to the border," he said.

More than 120 trucks are carrying over 1,400 tonnes of humanitarian cargoes, including articles of daily necessity, food products, medicines and clothes.

Among the humanitarian cargoes are presents to World War Two veterans on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of victory. Apart from that, the Russian humanitarian convoy will deliver firefighting equipment for emergencies services in Donetsk and Lugansk.

Since August 2014, the Russian emergencies ministry has delivered more than 31,500 tonnes of humanitarian cargoes to Donetsk and Lugansk.
