ULAN-UDE, April 23. /TASS/. Almost all forest fires have been put out in Russia’s Siberian republic of Buryatia, with only one wildfire being reported from an area of 20 hectares as of Thursday morning, the press service of Buryatia’s forestry agency said.
"Over the past 24 hours, as many as 14 wildfires with an overall area of more than 90 hectares have been extinguished. Only one wildfire has not yet been put out. The fire was caused by agricultural burning," the agency’s press secretary Alexandra Yegorova said.
Since the beginning of this year’s wildfire season in early April, as many as 222 wildfires have been reported on an area of more than 9,300 hectares.
An emergency situation regime was imposed in Buryatia’s forests from April 15. Access to forests has been banned.
