20,000 hectares of wildfires put out in Siberia over the past 24 hours

A total of 1,300 firemen assisted by 240 units of hardware and nine aircraft are combatting the blaze in the region

NOVOSIBIRSK, April 21. /TASS/. The area of wildfires in Russia’s Siberia at the moment makes up 101,000 hectares, after 25 wildfires covering an area of about 20,000 hectares have been put out in the past 24 hours, the forestry department of the Siberian Federal District reports on Tuesday.

Agricultural burning and negligence of local population are the main reasons behind the fires. A total of 1,300 firemen assisted by 240 units of hardware and nine aircraft are combatting the blaze in the region.

All in all, 1,007 wildfires engulfing an area of 354,700 hectares have been registered in Siberia this year. Most fires are concentrated in the Trans-Baikal region, as well as in Buryatia and Tuva.
