Combat readiness inspection of troops begins in Russia's Far-Eastern Sakhalin, Kurils

The inspection will assess combat readiness of all units of the Eastern Military District stationed in the island zone

MOSCOW, April 6. /TASS/. Combat readiness inspections were launched on Monday in military units located in Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands, spokesman for the Russian Eastern Military District Colonel Alexander Gordeyev said.

"The troops’ test check for the winter training period has been launched today in which commissions of various levels will assess combat readiness of all without exception units of the Eastern Military District stationed in the island zone," he said.

According to Gordeyev, more than 10 tactical exercises with field firing were conducted at the closing stage of the winter training period in late March - early April. "Motorized rifle brigades, tank, artillery and air defense missile units conducted extended vehicle marches from the permanent deployment places to ranges, drilling along the way the battlefield security actions, passage of hypothetically contaminated areas and personnel actions to rebuff attacks of the simulated enemy’s sabotage and reconnaissance groups," the spokesman said.

According to Gordeyev, these maneuvers were scheduled.
