Russia's Eastern Military District troops to launch air missile strike on simulated enemy

The exercise involves bombers, assault and army aviation of the district, as well as warships of the Pacific Fleet, missile and artillery units and formations, electronic warfare units

MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. The force grouping of the Eastern Military District within a command and staff exercises will drill launching retaliatory missile and air strikes on a simulated enemy, the district spokesman Colonel Alexander Gordeyev told TASS on Friday.

"The exercise involves bombers, assault and army aviation of the district, as well as warships of the Pacific Fleet, missile and artillery units and formations, electronic warfare units," he said.

The Sukhoi Su-27, Su-30SM, Su-35 and MiG-31 fighters cover actions of the multi-service force grouping from the air. The long-range planes Tupolev-160 and Tu-95MS also support operations of the district’s troops, Gordeyev said.

The large-scale manoeuvres involve more than 20,000 troops and up to 7,000 units of weapons, military and special equipment, performing combat tasks in seven regions of Russia’s Trans-Baikal territory and the Far East.
