MOSCOW, March 23. /TASS/. A demand by the UK's top diplomat that Crimea is handed back to Ukraine is "detached from reality" and not negotiable, chairman of the Federation Council International Affairs Committee Konstantin Kosachev said.

"I believe this statement requires no further comment because, on the one hand, there isn’t anything new in it, it reiterates the British authorities’ stand, which is well-known, and, on the other, it’s completely detached from reality and is neither likely to be implemented nor discussed in the format offered by British diplomats," he said.

The demand by British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond on Sunday that Russia should "return Crimea to Ukraine" was timed for the first anniversary of the Black Sea peninsula’s reunification with Russia.
