China and Russia improve cooperation in energy, transport, Far East development

"This year, our practical cooperation will bring important results" Chinese foreign minister said

BEIJING, 8 March. /TASS/. Russia and China will improve further the bilateral economic cooperation in the energy, transport and the development of the Far East, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi told a news conference on Sunday.

"This year, our practical cooperation will bring important results. For example, we have been working hard to bring the bilateral trade to $100 billion," he said. "We shall sign an agreement on the Silk Road Economic Belt, shall begin construction of the eastern line of the gas pipeline and shall sign an agreement on its western line."

Russia and China will develop research under the joint project for long-haul wide-body passenger aircrafts.

"We shall also launch strategic cooperation in development of the Russian Far east and will improve the cooperation in high-speed railroads," the foreign minister said.

In 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the idea during his recent visit to Central Asia, eyeing the cultural revival of the Silk Road, which historically links China with Central Asia and Europe, as a way of developing political and economic ties.
