CNN set for Russia broadcasting comeback — media supervisor

CNN announced in November it would stop broadcasting in Russia’s cable network at the end of the year

MOSCOW, February 24. /TASS/. American cable news channel CNN is set to receive a new Russian broadcasting licence, one month after leaving the country in December, says communications supervisor Roskomnadzor.

"The licence is being finalised and could be signed this week," said Vadim Ampelonskiy, from the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media.

CNN announced in November it would stop broadcasting in Russia’s cable network at the end of the year, noting that "Turner International is assessing its distribution options for CNN in Russia in light of recent changes in Russian media legislation". It did not identify the changes in question.

The company was severing distribution relationships in the process, it said at the time, hoping to re-enter the market at a later date.
