Moscow says NATO is not enemy, but its activity at Russian borders creates security threat

NATO’s military build-up near Russian borders, the creation of operational capabilities for NATO reaction forces is a direct threat to Russia’s national security, Foreign Ministry spokesman says

MOSCOW, February 19. /TASS/. NATO’s military activity intensification near Russia’s borders creates a direct threat to Russian security, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich told a briefing on Thursday.

"NATO’s activity near Russian borders, military build-up, including through the creation of operational capabilities for NATO reaction forces is a direct threat to Russia’s national security," he said. "We have long ago said, and NATO leadership knows this, that we don’t regard the alliance as a hostile force, but their actions and decisions made within the framework of the NATO concept are creating serious threats not only to Russian security, but also to security in the Euro-Atlantic space in the broadest sense of the word," Lukashevich said.
