BLAGOVESHCHENSK, February 13. /TASS/. A Russian Far East court has fined a Chinese soldier 50,000 rubles (roughly $750) for illegally crossing the border across the frozen Amur River from China’s Heihe city to Russia.

The regional prosecutor’s office said on Friday that the serviceman wanted to buy a batch of cheap cellular phones in Russia for resale in China. Russian border guards detained the soldier on January 2.

Noting his repentance and a plea bargain, Blagoveshchensk court limited the penalty to 50,000 rubles. The soldier was released from custody and handed over to his country’s authorities.
