MOSCOW, January 23. /TASS/. Russia’s Foreign Ministry hopes a positive tendency towards elimination of the institute of “non-citizenship” in Estonia will be continued, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Friday, commenting on amendments to Estonia’s law on citizenship.

“On January 21, Estonia’s parliament passed in the third reading amendments to the law on citizenship simplifying the process of naturalization for people older than 65 and children. Children of ‘non-citizens’ will be automatically granted Estonia’s citizenship,” the Russian diplomat said. “We hope this positive tendency will be continued, including through Estonia’s fulfillment of all other recommendations of sectoral international organizations and human rights structures in the area of protection of the rights of national minorities and elimination of the institute of ‘non-citizenship’.”
