Naryshkin: Russia may raise the question of its Council of Europe membership

"We will have to raise the question of Russia’s membership of the Council of Europe if another decision is not made in the year to come,” Naryshkin sai

MOSCOW, January 21 /TASS/. Russia may raise the question of its Council of Europe membership if PACE fails to restore the Russian delegation’s mandate, Russian State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin said in an interview with the Kommersant newspaper.

“We value the Parliamentary Assembly and the Council of Europe for being a broad international floor for an open dialogue on urgent issues. But if we continue to be deprived of an opportunity to conduct this open dialogue, then what we should value this organization for? Then, the question of suspension of our work at PACE at least for a year will arise. We will have to raise the question of Russia’s membership of the Council of Europe if another decision is not made in the year to come,” Naryshkin said.
