Russia’s chief rabbi urges politicians to present common front against terrorism

Lazar believes that politicians should turn an attentive ear to the opinion of people in various countries that have expressed “solidarity with terror victims” by turning out for street processions

MOSCOW, January 8. /TASS/. Russia’s chief rabbi, Berel Lazar, has strongly condemned the attackers who raided the editorial office of France’s satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday to leave dozens of casualties. He urged politicians in various countries to present a common front in the struggle against international terrorism.

“The news of the tragedy in Paris evoked a feeling of awful grief. I am certain that our entire community feels precisely this way - my brethren in faith very often fall victim to acts of international terrorism. Our hearts today are with the relatives and dear ones of the innocent victims,” Lazar said in a message.

“It is absolutely wrong to refer to the militants not only as ‘faith fighters’ but even as followers of any religion,” he said, adding that “extremists profess only one ideology, that of hatred.”

Lazar believes that politicians should turn an attentive ear to the opinion of people in various countries that have expressed “solidarity with terror victims” by turning out for street processions.

“Society is sending a clear message to the political class: it is necessary to unite and to declare a war of annihilation on terrorism! Terrorism has turned international and the struggle with it should be conducted jointly by all civilized states, in all continents and by all means. Otherwise our entire civilization will be in jeopardy.”.
