Number of drone flights in Russian army doubles in 2014

MOSCOW, January 6. /TASS/. The number of drone flights in the Russian armed forces doubled in 2014, the Russian defence ministry told TASS on Tuesday.

“Over the past year, the number of flights performed by unmanned aerial vehicles /UAV/ in the Russian armed forces doubled on the previous year and the UAV flying hours increased by more than four times,” the ministry said.

According to the ministry, drones were used in practically all operations, including in exercises. “Key focus was made on on-line reconnaissance information to troops and arms control points,” the ministry said.

In 2014, as many as 14 drone divisions were formed in the Russian armed forces. As many as 179 UAV systems were supplied to the army.
