Counter-terrorism operation underway in Russia's North Caucasus

NALCHIK, December 18. /TASS/. Counter-terrorist operation regime has been introduced in the Baksan district of the Russian North Caucasian republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, the regional operational headquarters told TASS.

The operational headquarters has not elaborated, specifying only that during the operation a number of special measures and temporary restrictions would be imposed in the area of the operation.

According to reports from the site, counter-terrorist operation regime has been in force since 05.45 Moscow Time.

Earlier, in the past week counter-terrorist operation regime was imposed in the republican capital Nalchik. In a flat of a five-storey block the law enforcers trapped four gunmen who were then eliminated.

Russia’s National Anti-terrorism Committee said that the militants had been plotting a terrorist attack as a bomb measured 3 kilograms of trotile equivalent was found and another self-made explosive devise detonated in the shooting.
