Lavrov: Middle East settlement requires urgent measures to prevent degrading of situation

ROME, December 14. /TASS/. Middle-East settlement requires urgent setps to prevent the situation from degrading, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday at a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

“The Middle East problems need an urgent solution,” the Russian foreign minister said. “We must pool efforts to prevent the situation from degrading. And we plan to discuss this today.”

Kerry thanked the Lavrov for his willingness to change his working schedule to come to Rome.

Lavrov and Kerry are having a meeting, the 17th one in 2014, in Rome. The meeting is being held at the residence of the U.S. ambassador in Italy. The central item on the agenda is the Middle East settlement. U.S. Department of State deputy spokesperson Marie Harf said earlier that the two top diplomats would also discuss the situation in Syria and Ukraine.
