MAKHACHKALA, December 12. /TASS/. A special operation against gunmen who are hiding in a house is underway in the Gurbuki village of Russia’s North Caucasian Dagestan Republic on Friday, a law enforcement source told TASS. Despite the Counterterrorism Operation Regime that is in effect in some districts of Dagestan, the situation there is far from stable.

“The house was blocked in the morning. After negotiations two women came out of the house, but the men refused to surrender. So the special operation was launched,” the source said, declining to specify the number of militants hiding in the house.

According to a TASS source in the local law enforcement agencies, the Counterterrorism Operation Regime in the village is in effect since August 2014, and preliminary information suggests that from 3 to 5 militants are hiding in the blocked house.

The anti-terror operation regime is periodically activated in certain areas of republics within the North Caucasus Federal District due to the intensified terrorist activity.

The Republic of Dagestan is located in southern European Russia. It lies on the eastern end of the northern flank of the Greater Caucasus range, along the western shore of the Caspian Sea. The capital is Makhachkala.
