Russia ready to provide floor for inter-Syrian contact by end of January 2015

BEIRUT, December 11. /TASS/. Russia speaks for an earliest possible elimination of the crisis in Syria that is going on for four years on end, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, the Russian President’s special envoy to the Middle East and Africa said here on Thursday.

“Moscow’s efforts aim to create a favorable atmosphere for resuming serious and steady political and diplomatic efforts on the basis of June 30, 2012, Geneva communiquй,” Bogdanov said.

“We’re offering the Moscow floor for contacts among the Syrians,” he said. “We call these contacts consultative and preparatory, and this means the sides will refrain from putting forward any preconditions. Also, there won’t be any prearranged agenda.”

“If the Syrian partners display willingness for this then we hope we’ll organize the meetings as fast as we can and, quite possibly, by the end of January 2015,” Bogdanov said.
