Five people killed in car accident in Moscow Region

Some 30,000 people are annually killed in car accidents in Russia

MOSCOW, December 8. /TASS/. Five people have died in a traffic accident in the Moscow Region, the regional police reported Monday.

“At about 4:00 a.m., a Chevrolet Cobalt car traveling at a high speed hit a light barrier on the 38th kilometer of the Moscow-Chelyabinsk highway. Five people died and one person was injured in the accident,” the police press service said.

Some 30,000 people are annually killed in car accidents in Russia. The most widespread reasons for the accidents are a poor condition of roads as well as violations of traffic regulations: drunk driving, illegally crossing into the oncoming lane and running red lights.

Laws have been adopted recently to introduce tougher responsibility for the most serious violations of traffic regulations.
