MOSCOW, December 1. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will pay an official visit to Sudan on Wednesday, December 3, to meet President Omar Hassan al-Bashir and hold talks with Foreign Minister Ali Ahmed Karti, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday, adding that this would be Lavrov’s first visit to the republic after South Sudan separated from the north in 2011.

“The visit, which is taking place at this crucial point for the Republic of Sudan, aims to confirm our willingness to contribute to the inter-Sudanese settlement process in accordance with international law and to resolve issues of stable normalization in Darfur based on the Doha peace agreement signed in May 2011,” the ministry said.
