"We're planning to double aid as compared with last year and the current year," Putin said at a meeting with Abkhazian President Raul Khadzhimba.
Russian-Abkhazian relations develop rather successfully. A good legal base has been created, he said.
“Moreover, our experts and parliament members recognized that it was necessary to adopt additional acts for creating the best conditions for the development of economic relations and for ensuring security of Abkhazia. It is necessary to solve the major problem - to improve people’s life,” Putin said.
“Today’s meeting will give a good impetus to the development of our relations,” he said.Khadzhimba said Abkhazia had long gone through tough times. At present, after the Treaty on Allied Relations and Strategic Partnership was signed, with Russia, the country will enter a new phase, he said.
“Of course, we’ll increase the possibilities that we gave earlier - in security and in problems related to the social and economic development. We hope for the development of these relations and we don’t doubt that the aid, which will be proposed to us, will be really useful for our state,” Khadzhimba said.
The increase of Russia’s aid will allow Abkhazia to solve social problems and develop the economy, he said.
The presidents have met to sign the Treaty on Allied Relations and Strategic Partnership. The new treaty is based on the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation of 2008 that fixed Russia’s recognition of Abkhazia.
According to the Abkhazian president, it envisages creation of a collective security system.
